Travel & the City

Things to do

If you're in Vegas, you can visit a few of the massive casinos strewn throughout the city and centralized along the Strip. But gambling isn't the only thing to do here: The city houses numerous spas, performance venues, clubs and even child-friendly attractions. There are even other diversions attached to the casinos -- you can take a gondola ride at the Venetian, take a helicopter trip over the breathtaking Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, or head out on your adventure to the likes of the famous Death Valley National Park.

You should also swing by the Fremont Street Experience (also known as FSE) in downtown Las Vegas, a five-block pedestrian walkway that hosts free concerts and performances throughout the week.

How do I get around on the Strip?

There are a few ways to move around on the Strip: by foot, by bus, by monorail, by shuttle and by taxicab.

Walking is one of the most popular means of traveling the Vegas Strip. Crosswalks remain the best way to cross the street, but a few elevated walkways are available that will save you the wait for a walk sign and the dangers of city traffic.

Public buses have routes that travel the Strip. VEGAS.com has information on the CAT bus system and links to their schedules. The Vegas Strip routes are 301 and 302.

There is a monorail between the Mirage and Treasure Island, and another between the Excalibur, the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. The Las Vegas Monorail has stops at the MGM Grand, Bally's / Paris, Flamingo, Harrah's / Imperial Palace, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas Hilton and the Sahara.

All Strip casinos have a pick-up area for cabs, where patrons wait in line for the next available vehicle. There's no need to call a taxi, but expect longer waits on busier weekends.

Gambling Ages/Curfews

The minimum drinking age in Las Vegas is 21, and the minimum gambling age is 21. Minors are not allowed in the casino gaming areas. A rule of thumb, if there is a slot machine nearby your kids are most likely not welcome. However, children are allowed to walk through the casino, as long as they do not stop. You will be reminded of this as you make your way through the casino with children.

Non resort areas: Curfew hours for anyone younger than 18 not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian are 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday, legal holidays and during summer vacation.

The Strip: Curfew hours for anyone younger than 18 not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian are 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Fridays, Saturdays and legal holidays.
